grAIn Hub visits Google Sydney

On 22 October 2026, the ARC Research Hub in Responsible AI for a Sustainable Grain Industry (grAIn Hub) was joined by UTS colleagues, industry partners and Google Cloud at Google’s Sydney office in Pyrmont for a full-day executive briefing workshop to explore research and technology collaboration.

The visit provided an opportunity to connect the Hub’s industry-led research challenges with Google Cloud’s expertise in cloud and AI technologies. Distinguished Professor Jie Lu introduced the Hub’s objectives and example projects before participants moved into working sessions centred on Hub projects.

Two working sessions focused on Project SAFE with Safe Technologies and the Hub’s project with Moorella Ag. Both sessions explored the projects’ data, computing and security requirements and how Google Cloud capabilities might support future research.

Google Cloud then led an “Art of the Possible” session exploring what its platform could make possible for university research and the Hub’s projects.

The afternoon leadership meeting brought UTS and Google Cloud representatives together to discuss Google Cloud’s research and academic engagement programs, potential areas for collaboration explored during the workshop, and possible next steps.

The visit reflects the grAIn Hub’s commitment to bringing researchers, technology providers and industry together around practical challenges. By starting with the needs of industry partners and exploring the technology required to address them, the Hub aims to translate responsible AI research into solutions with real-world application.

The Hub thanks Google Cloud for hosting the workshop, as well as our UTS colleagues and industry partners for contributing their expertise and perspectives.
